Monterey County Black Caucus

A collective effort to unify Black voices, Black necessities, & Black representation  throughout Monterey County.

Monterey County Black Caucus

MCBC’s vision is to heal and empower the Black Community by cultivating leadership and providing a safe space for Black residents to unpack and reflect. We aim to advocate for equity and to inspire Black culture through arts and community development. We focus on three broad areas to support Black power-building and leadership in Monterey County to advance racial equity.

The Three broad areas to support Black Power Building

Learning and capacity-building around Black-led organizing

Cultivate a strategy for health, wealth and healing, and wellness in the Black Community

Strengthen the Black Caucus in Monterey County as a vehicle for Black-led Organizing

Black Power Building

In 2020 following the murder of George Floyd and the disparate impact COVID had on the Black Community, BHCMC realized the need to more intentionally engage the Black community in it’s efforts to advance racial equity. At the same time, funders recognized the harm created by uplifting only the Latino community and leaving out specifically the Black community. A grant was advocated and received, the first phase was to put together a research team that would help map out the needs of the Black community.

From there, the development of MCBC was formed. Black Power Building touches every sector of the BHC work from education, youth, parents, policies and community.
